Tony at his first wake...

It is my sad duty to advise you of the passing of one of our Golden Rugby stalwarts, Tony Narrocott.
Tony had a long career with golden oldies. As a young stud in UK, he played rugby in district sides, immigrated to Australia in the late seventies continuing his rugby career as a golden oldies with Sydney's
Gordon Stags, then Byron Bay "Bayers". Tony reformed the Byron team allowing his wicked sense of humour to prevail by renaming our team to the 'Smokin Joints'.
He was president of our current far north coast association for over 5 years afterwhich he continued playing in our Byron side until 2 years ago, retiring at 70.
Many  of you played with and against him, locally and in the Golden Oldies world festivals in Sth.Africa, Ireland, Kiwi land and Perth and Adelaide in Oz.
On and off the paddock he played and partied hard, becoming quite famous and unsettling many for his insistence in later years of wearing red shorts but nerveless tackling like an 'All Black'.
Our local 'Smokin Joints' team attended and participated in his wake ('awaking') held in Jan. this year (he didn't want to miss his party).
As with his nature, he left instructions for some of us to get him to the crematorium within 24 hours  of his passing, then to put his ashes within a rugby ball- this has been done.
At this stage (logistics permitting) on next Friday 5th there will be a Dixie jazz band procession in Byron's cbd with his ashes and cumulating at the 'Rails' hotel for his second wake. Naturally feel free to attend if you wish.
Adue our friend and comrade, Tony Narrocott and thanks for the memories.
Best regards to you all,
Barry Wallace,
President, Golden Rugby.
